ABC SEMI Gala Recognizes Best in the Construction Industry

It was a night to put on your best attire and enjoy good friends and food while recognizing the best that the contractors of Associated Builders and Contractors of Southeastern Michigan (ABC SEMI) had to offer.

“We have been looking forward to hosting the Excellence in Construction awards for some time,” ABC SEMI President and CEO Keith Ledbetter said. “We have some of the most innovative and exceptional contractors in the world working right here in southeast Michigan and it was high time we recognized their incredible work.”

Sponsors for the evening’s event were ABC SEMI Associate Members: FCCI Insurance, AIS Construction Equipment Corp., Sterling Insurance, Auto-Owners Insurance, UBS Financial Services, Paychex and the ABC Fund. Scott McInerney of Sterling Insurance was on hand to present the Legacy Award which they sponsored.

“We were proud to be involved in the ABC SEMI Excellence in Construction Awards,” said McInerney. “Many of the recipients are not only fellow members and clients, but friends too. Being able to sponsor the Legacy Award really fit with our company’s philosophy to recognize and cultivate talent and dedication. Jim Struble of RCI Electric truly embodies that spirit and is most deserving of this recognition.”

Site Preparation/Excavating 1 Category: Robert Clancy Contracting Inc. for their site preparation on the Michigan First Credit Union of Lathrup Village project (Detention System)

Robert Clancy, Chairman of ABC SEMI and owner of Robert Clancy Contracting, Inc., was pleased with the turnout and humbled at the scope and quality of the construction projects recognized at the event, especially since one of the projects was his—he won for Site Preparation/Excavating Category 1 under $1 million.

“We certainly do our best on all of our projects and want to make our clients happy,” Clancy admits. “It is gratifying work and what we get paid for. But, it is nice when the industry recognizes that dedication to quality and knowing the exceptional companies that we compete with, I am humbled and honored to get this award.”

Electrical 1 Category: Douglas Electric for their LED lighting update and retrofit for the St. John Episcopal Church project

Another awardee, Douglas Electric, made a clean sweep winning both Electrical 1 and Electrical 2 EIC awards for their innovative electrical and lighting projects. President of Douglas Electric, Paige Levy echoed Clancy’s sentiment and credits the team she has for the recognition they received.

Electrical 2 Category: Douglas Electric for their electrical work on the Country Club of Detroit Bowling and Fitness project

I am really pleased that our projects were recognized as some of the best this region has to offer,” Levy said. “Our team works very hard and goes to great lengths to ensure that quality is woven into all of our work. To have this association acknowledge this dedication is a testament to the hard-working men and women who make up Douglas Electric—these awards are really theirs.”
