ABC SEMI Gives Legal Notice to City of Royal Oak

Local contractors brought to ABC SEMI’s attention that the City of Royal Oak was violating state law by excluding non-union contractors from bidding on their new police headquarters project.

Under the state’s Fair and Open Competition in Governmental Construction Act, a Michigan governmental unit is forbidden from discriminating against a company based on their union affiliation. ABC SEMI Chapter Attorney Frank Mamat of Foster Swift Law firm sent a letter to the City of Royal Oak this week alerting them to the apparent violation of state law and the need to reissue their notice to allow all contractors to submit bids and extend the bid deadline.

ABC SEMI is happy to report that the city extended the bid deadline and opened the project up to all companies, regardless of union affiliation.

If any company runs into other municipalities that are not allowing merit shop contractors to bid on their projects, please reach out to the ABC SEMI office.

EP Financial Seminar

We cannot thank John Meldrum and UBS Financial Services enough, for hosting and guest speaking at our Emerging Professionals financial seminar.

Our chapter has the absolute best members an association could as for. We were happy to spend happy hour with a few of them.

Showcase of Venues

Destination Michigan put on a great showcase of venues for us. An extra added perk was seeing our friend Breanna Cope from ABC of Michigan.
