The ABCs of Emerging Professionals

Emerging Professionals Preparing the Next Generation of Leaders

Less than a year ago, Associated Builders and Contractors Southeastern Michigan Chapter (ABC SEMI) launched an affiliate organization known as Emerging Professionals (EP). EP is a national organization recognized by ABC National and dozens of other ABC chapters across the nation.

The Emerging Professional program was established to develop the next generation of leadership within ABC SEMI and to encourage networking between the best and brightest of the young individuals in the construction industry today.

In an effort to bridge the workforce shortage gap, the EP program addresses the opportunity to engage young individuals in assisting with leadership development at the chapter level.

The EP program aligns with two key objectives, which include:

Continuously grow and deliver value to a diverse and committed membership.

ABC SEMI’s Emerging Professionals program is often used as a membership tool at the chapter level. If we can provide them further benefits, this will only increase.

Our program will allow our member companies to engage the top talent entering the industry to become the future of the industry and ABC SEMI. With a successful EP program, ABC SEMI can stand out as the top association for leadership and professional development within the industry.

Be the leading force in the construction industry for workforce development and training.

The Emerging Professional programs offers networking, educational events and provides resources to help the next generation of leaders excel in the construction industry.

ABC SEMI’s newest Emerging Professional Steven Sattler, is a perfect example of the dedicated and driven individual EP is looking for in order to expand in 2018.

Sattler attended West Point to become an environmental engineer. He is decorated Army veteran, who was recently hired as a project manager by Robert Clancy Contracting, Inc.

“Being a part of Emerging Professionals and working for Robert Clancy Contracting, Inc. has given me chances to mold my career, make a difference and better my problem-solving skills,” said Sattler.

Emerging Professionals is all about teaching the next generation of leaders how to better position themselves in order to prosper. Getting involved, making connections and surrounding yourself with people you aspire to be like one day are the pillars of EP.

“I am grateful that Robert Clancy has taken me under his wing,” said Sattler.

“I am also fortunate enough to have two older brothers that motivate me and a father who inspires me every day on and off the jobsite.”

Emerging Professionals aims to shape the future of our industry by supporting the growth of the young professionals that are employed by Associated Builders and Contractors Southeastern Michigan Chapter member companies. The program will create opportunities for young leaders to build relationships, expand their skills and advance their careers while continuing to promote open competition and the merit shop philosophy. ABC SEMI’s EP program provides young leaders the opportunity to network and build relationships with peers, industry experts and association leaders across the country and to learn from different perspectives.

Employees of ABC SEMI member companies and ABC SEMI students who are under the age of 40 and have zero to ten years of experience in the construction industry are eligible to join. If you would like to fill out an application, please visit
